Things to Do
There is no shortage of things to do in the Albury area. These include shopping, dining, music and art, as well as the obvious pleasures of the river and nearby Lake Hume. This huge lake offers boating, skiing, swimming and fishing and a walk along the top of the dam. This gives outstanding views of the lake and there is a bike path safe for children.
Albury’s Botanic Gardens were established in 1887 and include over 1000 plant species, both native and exotic. The golf course at The Commercial Club has tree-lined fairways and well placed bunkers which present a real challenge even to championship golfers. For more leisurely activities, the Noreuil Park on the banks of the Murray River offers beautiful areas to walk, picnic or just relax and enjoy nature.
Shopping and Dining
Downtown Albury’s Dean Street is a serious shopping precinct, and in the area there are several shopping centres, each with dozens of retail outlets. Then there are the so-called “Eat Streets” with everything one could possibly want for an evening out enjoying the regions food and dining: fine dining, busy clubs, wineries, historic pubs, stylish cafés, all featuring the splendid wines of the region.
The Albury Art Gallery and others showcase fine regional art while theatre is alive and well at the prestigious Hothouse Theatre or the Albury Entertainment Centre which hosts many national and international performers.
